What is the West Bengal Shramshree Scheme?

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has launched a new scheme for migrant workers who are returning back to the State after alleged harassment and discrimination in other States for speaking Bengali. The Chief Minister while addressing the media said “Due to speaking Bengali, Other states declared them Criminals. 22 Lakh migrant workers from Bengal are working in other States and today they are suffering for speaking Bengali”.

Under the West Bengal Shramshree Scheme, each returning worker will receive Rs. 5000 per month for a year or until they secure new employment in West Bengal. Migrant workers will return to Bengal and the Government will provide them Rs.5000 per month for a year as financial help. This scheme will start under the Labour Department and it has been launched only for Bengali Migrant Workers.

Objective of the Shramshree Scheme

The main objective of the Shramshree is to bring back the migrant workers from Bengal working in other states. Those workers who are working in other states sometimes face harassment and Discrimination due to their Speak Bengali that’s why the Government of West Bengal decided to launch a rehabilitation scheme for the Workers and Help them with Financial Assistance of Rs. 5000 per month for a year. This scheme is also dedicated to provide Skill Training and Job Opportunities for the Migrant Workers.

Benefits given Under Shramshree West Bengal

The Government Provided financial help, skill training and Other Facilities for the Migrant Workers on their Return.

• Rs.5,000 Financial Help: The Labour Department will provide financial help to those migrant workers who will return to West Bengal. They will get Financial Assistance of Rs. 5,000 per month for a year or until they get a secured job.
• Job in West Bengal: After returning back to the State Migrant Workers will also get a Job Card to work in rural Areas and Job Opportunities will also be created after providing them Skill Training.
• Self Employment: Migrant Workers after Returning back to State can Start their own business because they can get Loans from the Government to start their business.
Skill training will also be provided to become self employed and eligible for many Jobs.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme

  • This Scheme is only launched for the Bengali Migrant Workers who are working in other States.
  • Only those workers will be benefited under the Shramshree Scheme who come back to the State.
  • Migrant workers must have a Bank Passbook in order to get Benefits in their Account.

Online applications are invited through Shramshree Mobile App designed for Android, follow the below instructions to apply for the Scheme.

  • Click Here to Download the Shramshree Mobile App.
  • Open the App after the Installation Process, if you are already Registered with Karmasathi Portal then Click on Login Button otherwise Click on Register Button given on the Screen.
  • Now Enter the Required Details for the Scheme and Upload the Important Documents like Bank passbook, Passport Size photo and Other Documents.
  • Click on the Submit Button for Final Submission of the Application.
